Soil Salinity−A Global Problem of Agroecosystems

Now a days almost all countries of the world face the problem of Salinization of soil. It is one of the most decisive environmental factors limiting production in crop growing areas of arid and semi arid regions throughout the world. Till date soil salinization is an unavoidable phenomenon which cannot be overcome. Gradual loss of agricultural land due to soil salinization may cause a serious problem for human population in near future. A lot of natural and antropogenic factors are responsible for soil salinization. The impact of soil salinization on human population is of multidimensional. In addition it is also harmful to entitre  biotic component of ecosystem including plants, animals, microbes etc. Together with overpopulation, decrease agricultural land and overexploitation of water resources, soil salinization limits food security. The present communication deals with the impact of soil salinity on agricultural ecosystem and about the  probable methods to check the negative impact of soil salinity. Various researchers have developed some revolutionized steps to limit some extent the negative impact of soil salinity on agriculture.Among the sustainable technological approach most common one is the removal of salts from saline soils by tolerant plants.
