Leucas aspera
(Willd.) Link (Family Lamiaceae) is an annual herb and distributed almost all parts of India and the Philippines as well as the plains of Mauritius and Java .Leucas aspera is typically found in dry, open, sandy soil and is abundant in areas with waste .It is very famous for its uses in the fields of medicine and agriculture(Prajapati,2010;Srinivasan,2011). Leucas aspera Leaves and flowers of the plants are edible. Medicinally, it has been proven to possess various pharmacological activities like antifungal, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antinociceptive and cytotoxic activity(Prajapati,2010). During our survey work we have found an unusual flower of Leucas aspera  in which corolla were completely free and represented by 8 petals. In upper view the flowers were appeared as star shaped. The colour of petals were typical white. The calyx were usual type,i.e tubular with a top curved at right angle.Stamens 6 in number and didynamous (4 longer and 2 shorter).Longer stamens are extrores and bithecous and the shorter stamens are extremely reduced. This unusual type of flower was found beside a drainage ditch infront of Vivekananda High School,Konpakuri,Jalpaiguri,West Bengal (26o26′36′′N & 88o41′59′′E).The plant was first observed on autumn season, in last of October,2018.During this time relative humidity was 30-40% and temperature was 23oC-30 oC.This type of  floral modification in Leucas aspera is very unusual and may be ecologically significant. Therefore the study recommends further research to be carried out to study the reason of the modification and its ecological significance.
